Scherzer strikes out 14 A’s

Detroit 10, Atleticos 2: The A’s found themselves on the wrong end of a sudden resurgence by Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer Sunday, whiffing 14 times en route to a 10-2 drubbing. Scherzer, who was 1-4 with a 7.29 ERA this season before Sunday, was recently sent back to the minors. But the mechanics that were alluding the highly touted prospect seem to have been readjusted nicely, as he went 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in the minors before being recalled Sunday. What was more impressive is his 14 K’s came in 5 2/3 innings, the most K’s thrown in less than six innings since 1920.
