Twins 4, Atleticos 3: After a game-tying triple in the bottom of the eighth by Adam “Hitting over .213 for the first time in his life” Rosales, the A’s appeared to be headed for a dramatic comeback. But pinch hitter Daric Barton flied out to end the inning and an unlikely villain from Minnesota stole the show in the top of the ninth inning. Two batters after Los Atleticos intentionally walked pinch hitter Justin Morneau, Matt Tolbert, who just got called up again from Triple-A after J.J. Hardy’s wrist injury, sliced a single up the middle against A’s submarine pitcher Brad “Ziggy Stardust” Ziegler to drive in what would be the winning run. Tolbert was 2-for-17 this year and 0-for-4 in the game before the at-bat. Pitcher Francisco Liriano struck out 10 A’s and appears to be back to the form that had people raving about him in ’06.
